These are the most difficult times for the poor. The COVID-19 pandemic and loss of livelihood amidst social distancing rules is disproportionately affecting them. Hunger, lack of sanitary kits and loss of income to buy basic essentials have left the daily wage earners helpless. They are living with very poor sanitation and contaminated water with limited to no availability of nutritious food. Lack of proper hygiene and sanitation prevalent among slum communities may further threaten the safety of residents that might lead to large-scale spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

Realizing the gap in what they need to maintain good hygiene among their families, it became important that awareness is built into slum clusters about handling COVID19 so that its spread can be controlled.

Dealing with this concern, we Centre for Education and Health Research Organization (CEHRO INDIA), with the help of 'The Himalaya Drug Company' is working tirelessly on ground to spread awareness on the importance and benefits of taking proper hygiene care, also supporting them and their families through the provision of basic daily hygiene essentials in the slum areas such as Satai, Jalalpur, Shana & Chail Thasil Chail district Kaushambi(Uttar Pradesh), Nevada slum and Indrapuri Basti Sector 5 Bhim Tola, Telibagh , Bakridi Gali Beli Colony, Mausriya Nevada in Prayagraj (ALLAHABAD) and LUCKNOW.

Each hygiene kit includes items such as:

  • Bathroom and toiletry essentials like: Soaps, Toothpaste, Face Wash, Shampoo etc
  • The beneficiaries are domestic women workers, migrated families, daily wage earners, transgender etc
  • The contents of the distributed kits will suffice for a family of 6-7 persons for a period of three months
  • Our main motive is to provide hygiene kits to those families who are not able to afford food and to stop the possible spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the densely populated slum areas
  • We also take all necessary precautions to ensure social distancing so that we do not put our volunteers as well as those we are trying to help at risk

In this we are very much thankful to, 'The Himalaya Drug Company' , without their support and coordination with CEHRO, it would not have been possible for us to make this hygiene care kits distribution successful to over 30,000 families in the crowded slum areas of ALLAHABAD and LUCKNOW.

In these times of uncertainty, we believe that it is our duty, to support and to ensure relief measures for the vulnerable communities, who need it the most. So our team is working continuously towards creating such awareness among grassroots communities about preventive methods to keep underprivileged children and families safe and distributing hygiene care kits to them who do not have proper hygiene knowledge to keep them safe from the infectious disease (Covid-19).

Let everyone join us towards the cause and ensure a healthy society for all. Together we can stop cause an increased risk of COVID-19 pandemic and make India free from the novel Coronavirus.
