Christmas is a time of unlimited fun for kids, for them it is like “the day never ends”. But there are kids who don’t even know what Christmas is about?

Therefore, we, Centre for Education and Health Research Organization targeted such 5000 underprivileged children in slums of Delhi where we thought to celebrate Christmas. So in awe of celebrating Christmas, we have decided to celebrate it with cake cutting ceremony. Thereby, we ordered 33 pound plum cake for three slums.

On 25th December, 2020 our day started from morning 10 o’clock with the celebration at Munirka Village community. Here, some kids wore a Santa dress and their enthusiasm was over the top. We brought the cake and with kid-Santa we cut the cake. After that, cake and Alpenlibe Gold and Juzt Jelly strawberry flavor toffees were distributed among 500 kids.

Meanwhile, our 4 teams were already distributing door-to-door toffees at Kusumpur Pahadi, Masjid Compound, Bhanwar Singh Camp and Nepali Camp slum of Delhi, as our target was large and volunteers (Santa for the day) were dedicated

After celebrating Christmas at Munirka Village our team headed to second location of celebration at Nepali Camp, Vasant Vihar. Although kids do not know the reason of celebration but still they were full of energy and dressed for the occasion. One of the girl, Jhanvi wore a pink lehenga and decorated her hairs with flowers. We cut the cake with all the children and distributed cake and toffees among them. Here, we have celebrated with 300 kids.

Till then, our volunteers have distributed toffees to 4000 children.

Now, we have come to our last location Bhanwar Singh Camp, Vasant Vihar. Children here were aware of Christmas Day and were very excited. Before starting the celebration, we thought of distributing some gifts to those kids who are regularly attending and performing good in art & craft online classes conducted by CEHRO INDIA. We thought of motivating and appreciating these kids and to make other kids hopeful. We have distributed Ludo and Snakes & Ladder board game and a packet containing Christmas cap, cake and little flash light to 200 kids. After prize distribution, we cut the cake with kids and distributed toffees among them.

Till this hour, our volunteers have finished distributing toffees to 5000 underprivileged kids but they did not stop. They knew that still some slums were left within their reach and it is the day of distributing happiness among kids. So they decided to cover Coolie Camp, Priyanka Gandhi Camp, Rangpuri Pahadi and Nehru-Ekta Camp slum and till 7:00 P.M they have distributed toffees to 8000 underprivileged kids in 8 slums, reaching beyond the target.

So, by and large, we have celebrated Christmas with 8000 underprivileged children in different slums of Delhi. Our volunteers, Santa’s for the day, could not hide their happiness by reaching over the goal. They shared the experience of kids excitement and return with the promise of another exciting day soon.
